Anarchy Online - what is going on.

I've been playing now for close to seven years, a MMORPG called Anarchy Online run by Funcom, where it has it's own world politics and battles and factions (organizations).

I've been looking at trends and numbers of the game, as it seemed to be lacking people actually playing it.

So, I wasn't able to find much in the way of stats, so I used Google statistics to see what i could reveal.

Below is a search of Anarchy Online worldwide (via Google) and you can see that it mainly centres around Norway, Sweeden and Finland.
It's becomes more interesting that when you add the word free, the whole map changes. As you can see the geography is toally centered around the United States of America.

If you then add the word download this is what happens. Pretty much the same you see. Well, the interest over time is also interesting, as you can see it hits rock bottom despite it's popularity in 2005/6.

Well, what can be done? I think there are several issues but it really comes down to three things. How quickly Funcom can advertise the new improvements to the game, though it's engine and server merge. The server merge is really a cost cutting exercise, and is going to be very messy as a lot of issues in terms of existing organization cities also appear in both locations for example.

What would be very disappointing is if after all of these changes and updates, they fail in marketing the game as well as can it. If this ever happened, I would like to see somebody purchasing the rights of AO and running it as it should.
